Welcome to Meeting House Cooperative Preschool! If you are looking at preschools for your first or only child, you will notice there are many wonderful preschools, each with its own unique personality. We hope you find the best one that suits your family's philosophy and culture. Preschool should be a happy, wonderful, comforting experience for you and your child. The value of preschool for your child is important on many levels. Not only does a child learn to operate in a group, but they begin to learn the art of compromise. The philosophy at MHCP is that children learn through play - and not only with adults. Our teachers guide and prepare the lessons, but the children are the ones who make "learning" come alive.
MHCP is in Old Town Alexandria and enrolls approximately fifty students each year. Our active Board of Directors meets monthly, and as Director, I manage the day-to-day operations. Each class has a lead teacher and one assistant who work with the children daily.
We recognize that parents are a child's first teachers. Parents have the right to question and make suggestions. Our experience as educators tells us that when parents and teachers work together, everyone benefits. We feel strongly that parents should express their thoughts and feelings- both positive and negative- as they provide opportunities for clarification and mutual understanding.
As you begin your research, please study our website carefully for detailed information, up-to-date application events, and deadlines. We enjoy meeting prospective parents and providing individual tours and interviews.
Sincerely,
Tania Ryan, Director
The direct involvement of parents in the classroom is an aspect of a cooperative preschool that strengthens the bond between parents and children. The PAC is made up of parents who volunteer on different committees. Each family participates on one committee, supplementing and broadening the preschool program.
Staff, teachers, and an active Board of Directors work together to support the programs and vision of the preschool. The Board of Directors meets monthly and is responsible for establishing, implementing, and reviewing policies that uphold the mission and ensure that the needs of the school and our students are met.
